Ok guys heres whats going on i got the older mazda gears 80-85 whih where 3.3's and the carrier was just suposed to be able to bolt right into the 86-93 mazda rear, well the ring gear on the 82 rear is an 8" and mines a 7.5" so heres what i got going down. The truck going to get a new rear in it either a 9" ford copped down, or somebody said toyota or nissan made a pretty stout rear with decent sized axles, disc brakes, and gear interchangability. So i was wondering if anyone knows what year and vehicle the rear came in, and if they make any gears close to a 3.30. If not looks like the posi 9" is getting cut down...Let me no thanks in advance guys!

You have a 351 don't you?
I'd go with the 9" and chop it down. I know it's a lot of work, but theres no more worrying about your rear end from that point on. Everyone I've heard from who put a 9" in their stang or ranger Loved it.

Grab a 8.8 and swap in some good gears and you will be set and i think the mustangs is like 2 inchs shorter than a stock mazda rearend

yea thanks guys i was thinking about the 8.8 too, i have one out of a ranger in my basement i'll have to do some measureing...

I think the ranger ones are about 1 inch shorter so it sould work as well thats what im gone do when i get the money to work on it

Welp looks like it'll be getting a 96 mustang 8.8 put in it. I got the 96 b/c it has the disc brakes and it'll be damn nice to have 4 wheel disc brakes, and you can believe it will be getting a posi put in it! Hope to have it installed and the truck back together in about 2 weeks so i can get it ready to head out to some shows...

well if you swap the rear are you gonna get axles drilled for 6 lug or are you gonna swap the truck over to 5lug???

did you ever find out the measurements on the ranger axle or any of the stang ones? if so could you post of pm them to me?

Yea i measured the my 88 ranger rear its 1 1/4" shorter then the mazda rear, The mustang rear is suposed to be about 2" shorter but i guess we'll find out for sure when i go to the junkyard tomarrow to check it out and get them to pull it. I want it mainly for the disc brakes, posi and gear interchangeablity. Only thing that really sucks is i have to redo my 4 link, and bag mounts. I have not decided if im gonna swap to five lug yet or not i will more than likly just get the rear drilled for 6 lug...
