LOL

shake it off robbie, no need to keep it going.

one of the guys is somewhat right, the guy with the red car. but your gusset being more than half way across the upper bag plate, and it being long makes up for it. what he's saying is that it is better to mount the gusset straight up and down, and yes he is right. BUT you can get the same reinforcement with a gusset that is tilted, as long as the total length downward is longer than what you would need if you were to use a straight gusset.

here's an example. say if the gusset needed is a 2inch long triangular gusset. well if you want it mounted 45degrees, you would need it to ATLEAST be 2.8inches so it has close to the same reinforcement as a 2inch gusset mounted straight down. another added property is you will also now have reinforcement horizontally, not just vertically since the gusset is angled. it will not have exactly the same reinforcement strength, but it is close. the welds on the gusset need to be really good as well to hold since there is actually more stress on the gusset since it is now angled. but the point of the matter is that it's vertical reinforcement value is nearly the same.

*EDIT: i would only apply this to something relatively small. and yes the metal's properties matter as well. obviously, the longer the gusset, more stress is on the gusset, so stronger metal would be needed as you go longer, and it gets more complicated.

here's a diagram using some geometry.

in my opinion, your gusset is plenty to prevent ripping the upper bracket from the frame. assuming you do not abuse it and the maximum load on it is the vehicle's weight in the front, no hopping is done. if anything, you should atleast run one small gusset for the top so the bag bracket does not bend at the tip. you will also need a gusset up top if your lower gussets do not come atleast half way across the upper mount. which is my case. my truck has 2 1.5inch long gussets on the bottom of the brackets that are mounted straight down, and upper gussets about 3/4 across the bag plate so it does not bend up. the lower gussets are just there so the shock tower does not bend up and/or rip the frame where the upper plate welds onto it. some folks do not give the factory mazda frame enough credit. only a small gusset is needed under the upper plate to where it won't rip out of the frame
