I got home from camping on the weekend last night, I took the truck which was kinda risky, but fun to do. Roadtrippin'
I drove about an hour and a half, with lots of hills etc. the engine was runnin soo good I could'nt help myself, I was go'in a bit too fast at times,
but it did'nt feel like it, ya know?
Anyway the issue I'm concerned about is I could feel the heat coming off of the tranny tunnel ( cab floor without the carpet currently ), putting my hand to it, I would have to say it was very warm! My shifter arm was quite warm as well so I coasted for a while to let it cool down.
I have not had the time to look at my fluids yet but I figured I would just put it out there and see what Yall have to say.
I have a manual 5 spd.
What fluid is reccommended for these old trannys?

is this the first time you've felt it like this? as in was it warmer this time? it should be since you were climbing hills. but they are supposed to be warm, just not boiling

Mine felt the same way. There not going to stay cold.

mine did that.. then my trans blew cus there was no oil in it.. check the oil. And put 80w90 gear lube in it. make sure its full.

well just keep in mind that it is supposed to heat up lol. and you not having carpet and insulation isn't helping that you can feel the heat lol. so just because its heating up doesnt mean it's going to blow up

but it doesnt hurt to check the fluids

Yea like the others have said heck it does not hurt to change them as well unless you changed it there is no telling when thay were changed last

yeh , fluids full, but shes got 235000 kms on her, and it was warm enough to keep coffee warm in the console so ......I've never experienced that before
Hey has anyone blown their tranny yet and at what milage did it occur? manual 5 sp is what i'm askin bout

130k miles and NO tranny trouble-mine is automatic. If u change tranny fluid about the same time u change ur timing belt and dont jerk the truck around, the tranny will outlast the truck.Next time u change yours,go to a synthetic.U will notice difference. BJ
