Anyone done a vortec swap on a B yet? Just curious as I know of a guy doing a swap to an LS1 in a 2000 Extreme S10, and will have the vortec 4.3 with 5 speed/harness/ecu up for grabs. I don't want a ton of power, just something with a lil more juice than the 2.2, and to still get decent mileage.

Yes we do have one member here that has done the 4.3 vortec swap - but fuk if I can remember who it is. I recall that he used the ultimate customs 4.3 swap kit BUT it wasn't that straight forward of a swap.
anything is possible - I have researched this and I am still looking to do this swap - would have been done this summer if not for my separation / divorce.
The key to you doing this properly is to get everything that you can from the donor vehicle. If he removes it nut, bolt, clip, whatever get him to save it, put it in a bag, what ever.

Hey I am in the process of doing it..... I am using a 94 with a 4l60e and the painless wiring harness. THe ultimate customs kit needs modification if you lay frame. THe front cross memer needs moving no matter how you put it in but that's about all. I set mine up so that I can use the OEM crosssmember for the tranny. It's not running as of yet finishing up my engine compartment first

if i have a sb 350 in mine then a 4.3L will fit. the only thing is that i need to re-wire the whole truck.

Gimme a hollar if you don't pick this motor tranny up. I would be interested in it and Regina isn't to far to go for it.

I put in a 4.3 from a 96 silverado using the UC kit. If you're keeping the FI, the UC kit won't help a whole lot. They'll give you a crossmember and mounts that may or may not work.

Your biggest issue will probably be the computer. If you don't want to set codes, you'll have to make sure that you have all 3 O2s (2 cats) hooked up, egr, evap, etc. You might wanna check to see if that PCM has VATS installed. Then there's the new fuel lines, pump, and tank.

If you can find someone to hack your PCM for ya, and find lines, tank, and pump from a FI B, you'll be miles ahead.

Good luck.
