HAS ANYONE ELSE FOUND IT TO BE A PAIN TO PUT YOUR RADIO IN YOUR DASH AND DID U TAKE OUT UR VENTS
drpdmazda   +1y
it was a little bit of a pain, i took out all my heater stuff and fiberglassed then wrapped that dash part, but it was def. a pain in the ass having to cut all the brackets and stuff out of the way

not a pain at all. it took me all of about 45 minutes.

just took a dremel to the lower pocket in the dash, and installed radio. the air supply to the rear vents isnt there anymore, but i still get pretty good flow out the vents. i could take pics if someone wanted.

i put an installed picture in my garage, i just did it yesterday so its all fresh in my mind, what are you having a problem with???

basically, you see the pocket the radio is going in, i started by removing the backside of that pocket. then the white thing that holds the bulb 2 phillips screws. once all thats out the way its up to you to figure out what you are gonna use to remove the extra material from the pocket. if you hold the radio support bracket up to the pocket you will see where you need to cut. i used a dremel with a small cut of wheel, took my time and it fit perfect. i did mine flush so i could retain the trim piece on the radio, otherwise you can remove a little more and sink the radio in to the pocket, i just personally like it flush.

once that is done and the radio fits the pocket take it back out, loosely install the bezel back on the dash and look into the pocket and see what needs to be removed for it to slide back in. it was just some metal brackets i had to cut out the way with the same dremel, and the a/c duct which is not usable after you do this without customizing it. i might pull it all back out tomorrow cuz i gotta move my in dash antenna (thanks ryan) a little farther, if so i will take some more pics.

my newest kenwood is a tad long to fit in properly - even after taking a heat gun and a 2x6 and "persuading" the plastic venting back a bit.

yeah, my venting is gone completely.

that's what windows are for, right? Up for heat, down for cool.

Use a heat gun and a 2x4 and you can just push the heat duct in enough to put your radio in ...and that way you loose no heat anywhere

THanks guys i have it in but not all the way cause the vents. I think i'm gonna go the 2X4 and heat gun route. But yeah thats what windows are for right.
