I have a ext cab mazda and never really got to drive in a standard cab, but I have been watching a bagged mazda up for sale and it is a standard cab. It is kind of in my price range now, but I am not sure about going to a standard cab becuase of loss of space. On the other hand, I have full 4x4 sheetmetal for a standard cab, I would have it for my ext, but my dad doesnt want me taking his truck apart .

so from people that have owned both, which one did you like the best, did you notice any difference from a standard cab to the ext cab other then space.

any advice when looking at an already bagged truck?
thanks,
Mike

The 2 trucks I built were std. cabs and I wished the whole time they would have been ext. cab and now I have an ext. cab mazda and I wouldnt give it up for the world. but honestly it is just because the space. but when you go look at the bagged truck make sure you look at all the welds real good, make sure they used DOT approved fittings and airline not garden hose or anything else people might use that holds air but just isnt the right way to go about doing a project. ask how long the install has been done, did they use name brand stuff you have heard of? did they do the install themselves or did a shop do it? Im guessing you have never had anything bagged before so see if you buy it from them if they would be willing to help you out if stuff breaks. (because chances are it will eventually break) good luck

well, I got a few pics from email and it had a 2 link with a panhard bar, I really would rather have a tri-4 so I am going to just keep my ext cab and bag it when I save up some more. I'll have to work at my dad to give me his bed off his 4x4.
thanks for the info though.

if you already have the fenders and bed off a 4x4 lengthen your stock frame, get your driveline lengthened, and run the standard cab bed on the ext cab. i have wanted to do that for a few years now. i think it's pretty bitchin

I would do that, but it would extend my wheelbase even further and it is already hard to do a u turn, I am actually thinking of taking the 4x4 bed off my standard cab 4x4 and shortenin it in front of the axle and making a shorty like someone else, cant remember who it was on here that has that.
but I dont know, I am still looking for a ext bed so I dont have to cut up my own 4x4.

I've got a standard cab,and my grandpa has an ext cab. I prefer the look of a nicely done up std cab,but I would give it all up for the storage space,and/or audio capacity an ext cab has.

My next Mazda is going to be an ext cab for sure. I love mine too much to give it up,plus I have too much money invested in it at this point to sell and start over.

yeah as much as i love my std cab i too would like the extra space. even my wife has a std cab mazda for a project. i have big plans for an ext cab, one day in the future.

I've almost been thinking about picking up an ext cab to start as a new project and begin by bagging it,and then when it's pretty much ready, swap over most of my mods to the ext cab from my std cab, then keep the std cab as a daily driver and just give it a shot of paint. It's got a new engine and everything is new,so it would be a nice reliable driver, and it's been doing quite well in the snow.

I shortened my standard cab 4x4 bed to fit on the x cab frame
