I'm definitely a #6 on my 1-10 pissed scale! Its gettin' there! So me and a buddy were going to start on fiberglassing my kicker pods. Get everything ready to go and then go to turn the key over to give power to my deck. When I turned it, it was really difficult to turn it. Then I tried it again, and it got worse. Now, its totally LOCKED! Its frozen! I can't get it to turn anymore! I tried graphite and it did'nt work!

I pulled the ignition switch and tried it, still locked up! What the hell happened to my key cylinder? It was totally fine before I picked my buddy up!

I called Schucks and they said its $150 for a new one. I'm not sure if that comes withe steering column though? He said to try and go to a junkyard and get one. But he said I would have to pull the whole steering column! I have not clue how to do that! Plus, I would'nt have a key for it!

Is there ANY thing I can do to fix this? I need to be able to drive! I can turn the engine over with the switch, but the wheel is locked!!!!!

There is two bolts on the top of the ignition.Take a cut off wheel and cut a groove in it so a flat head screw driver can fit into it and screw it them out .The whole assembly will then come out.I have a complete ingnition with key it came out of a 1990 mazda b2200 I think they are the same as all 86 to 93 you can have it just make me an offer.

temp fix, hot wire it & remove the cylinder ...sounds like a tumbler messed up in it....might try a locksmith & see if he might be able to fix it cheaper than buying a new one & the parts house....

Well, I talked to my brother about it. He was stunned to hear how the replacement cost $150! Apparently our trucks are those rare types that a whole unit has to be replaced...

Hes going to come over tomorrow and pull the cylinder to check it. If he does'nt fix it I'll see about taking it to a smith to get it looked at. Hopefully I can fix it! If not, my bro was talking about rigging up a push button ignition system! It probably be alot cooler to do and less things to wear out and all. NOT TO MENTION CHEAPER THAN $150!

But if worse comes to worse, I suppose I would have to beg you v8mazda for the cylinder!

Just cant believe this happened to me like that though... Look on the bright side, maybe I'll write a techie on it?

thats odd that happened, ive never heard of a ignition cylinder just seizing like that, u sure u had the key in all the way?, or maybe just need a little love tap with a BFH, i know i have broken my key in my truck, it was only one half of it, so i had to use the other half to start it, but i unbolted it and messed with it for a few hours and got it working better then ever, i even polished it,

haha, yeah, a big screwdriver & a 2lb BFHammer, the key won't ever work again, but you'll get it to start....

the pushbutton sounds pretty sweet, but i would have some sort of hidden lock or switch to hot the pushbutton, otherwise it's gone in less than 60 seconds....

ha ha we lost the keys to the forklift, and put a pushbutton start on it, with a hidden on off toggle going to it. pushbutton is tough!

If you need to jerry rig anything in the mean-time you can take the cover off the column, unscrew the bundle of wires that are on the back side of the key cylinder/left side of the column, and just turn it with a screwdriver in the same keyway the key cylinder turned it. That way you don't have to cut any wires or damage anything else, but it makes your truck pretty easy to steal lol. Also, I don't know if the steering wheel lock unlocks when you do it this way, I've never done it....

mine did the same thing a couple of months ago. i sprayed some pb blaster in there and turned the key a few times no problem since.

Yeah I was going to say squirt some lite machine oil in the key way might free it up.I also have a new lock set for Bseries as well including ignition, wiring and door locks already keyed.U can have it for less than 150 bucks if needed.I think I have a used one as well with all 3 locks.BJ
