Are the sending units swapable between the ext. cab and reg. cab fuel tanks?

That depends.... My reg. cab truck has the fuel pump on the head, so the sending unit doesn't have the pump on it. I think that most of the ext. cab have the fuel pump on the sending unit. Another thing is that the EFI trucks apparently have a different sending unit with a high pressure pump on them. Anyone want to verify this for me?

Well I have an ext. cab and I think I have an external fuel pump as I didn't seem to see one on my sending unit. So I want to know if i can use a reg. cab fuel tank with the sending unit from my ext. cab.

I was thinking the only problem would the depth of the tank. I found online that the reg. cab tank is 11-3/8" deep and the ext. cab is 11-1/2" deep, so I think I should be okay. I was just looking for some verification.

I had no idea that the tanks were different depths. I thought that they were all the same, except the EFI has baffles, and the long bed has a longer tank

My ext cab has the fuel pump on the head.

could be of no importance to anyone but my 93 2200 carb has the fuel pump on the head too.

As far as I know, Carb has mechanical pumps on the head. The sending unit is in the tank.

FI models have the sending unit in the tank, but the fuel pump is electric and located in the frame rail near the tank. Although, I have no idea if theres a difference in std. and ext. models.

You might as well pull both units, and do a side by side comparison.

thanks for the help guys.

According to Mazda, the sending unit for the EFI is in the tank, jsut the pump is larger. I have seen a carb ext. cab with the electric fuel pump in it as well. I think the frame rail fuel pump you speak of is on a ranger, which ppl use when they do the EFI swap

i actually found this out the hard way, bought a sending unit from an ext. cab at a junk yard for my 89 std. cab only to find out that they are somewhat different and wont fit in the tank probably and the hose connections were facing the opposite way or something so the hoses didnt reach either. Now u might be able to get it to fit with some modding but i didnt bother cause a brand new one was like $60. And the ones for the EFI trucks have the fuel pump bolted to it unlike the the carbed trucks who just have a mechanical fuel pump.
