So last Saturday I ended up getting a leak in the side of my gas tank right beside the leaf spring. Started out as a tiny dribble, which turned into pissing like a firehose.

After freaking out and calling v8mazdaforever,I was able to cure it with some soap and JB Weld, and the next day I picked up some POR15 gas tank sealant and slapped that on. Well, all was fine and dandy until today. I get home from work, everything is good, and then I go to leave for the car show this evening and there's a puddle under my gas tank. Yup,sure enough, the gas soaked right through the JB weld AND the POR15! The stuff was all soggy and the tank just started pissing out gas again. I grabbed some jerry cans and the Flow N Go and siphoned out my entire tank into 3 jerry cans. I'm going to try and let it dry out, clean up around the hole and then slap some POR15 back on it and see what happens. If that doesn't hold,I'll need a new tank, which sucks.

On a good note though,I did just buy a 1995 Nissan King Cab pickup for $1000 in excellent shape. This truck is in 10x better shape than my Mazda. It has high miles,277k KM,but it'sonly 2nd owner, and he's had it for 7 years and really took care of it. It's black on grey,auto,AC,2wd,bedliner,slider window, totally stock and has the 2.4 KA. I pay for it tomorrow and pick it up once the ownership transfers,so I'll probably have the truck in my hands by Saturday. All it needs to pass inspection is new brakes. This is just going to be my daily driver to drive to work during the week, use during the winter and keep the Mazda for fun and keep the miles down, since I commute 1000km/wk now.

I'll get some pics up of the truck as soon as I get it!

Well congrats on the new truck sorry to hear that it is leaking again but if you are cleaning out all the gas and drying it out I can't see why the jb weld won't work. Remember that the soup is just a fast fix to get you home but I think that the soap that was under the jb weld didn't let the jb cure hard to the tank but if the fix doesn't work again. I know where there is a tank we can go look at.

damn man hope it all works out well for you, new tank would be a pain, but in all honesty i would do it just becaus eit is the smarter thing to do, its dangerous and expensive to have a leaky tank, especially in the summer heat, anyway just my .02 good luck man hope it all works out good for you and congrats on the nissan

I'm hoping I can hold off and run this tank for the rest of the summer so I can do a fuel cell when we bag it.

Tomorrow is a new day,and I'll scrape all the crap off the tank and let it dry out and get the POR15 on there and see what happens.

dude make sure it is clean as hell and mix some jg weld 50/50 and stick it on there and let it sit over night and then put some por 15 on it just let the jb dry before adding gas.

i just dont know how much down time i can afford with the truck. that sounds like a 2+ day job with all the waiting time. That means no Mazda for me this weekend, and I can't drive the Nissan because it's not certified.

Hey Lance, does your Nissan have the chrome front end?

Ya I beleive it does but I think it's sold as no one wanted it so I put in the super shopper for sale last week and I had a guy put a deposit on it till he can come and pick it up but he hasn't called since I will call him tomorrow and see whats up.

Get some of that 2 part epoxy stuff its like clay with a light gray outside and dark gray center. you mix it till its one color and apply. my uncle had a YUGO (dont laugh I drove that car to and loved it) a rock busted the bell housing and it was leaking fluid he used that stuff and me and him drive it for 2 years without a single leak.
