Ok so I just got a sanden 708 and did a R134A conversion. long story short the AC works great but I’m having an odd idleing issue (it goes up and down from 800 to 1500 RPM's when the ac is in) I’m pretty sure it’s the carburetor because the previous owner said it trashed anyway.

OH but that’s not why I’m here. I need to know how to replace the driver side vent. It’s broken and all it does is blow hot air (I think its external air) and I can’t close the vent so it won’t blow at all. Am I going to have to take the whole dash out to get to it? And does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement?

There is a kick up switch on the carb that raises the idle just a tad when the air comes on.When it goes bad u get the rapid cycle like u describe.Mine went bad and did the same thing.I cured mine with a Weber swap.Lol.BJ

Those vents come up for sale on ebay now and again. You can pull the vent off pretty easy but I can't remember where everything to take it off is located. There was a break away picture of a dash on this forum not too long ago. See if you can find that and it will show you.

that actually helps alot, i dont think its just the vents tho because it blows hot air. i need to take the dash out to really see whats broken back there. how hard/pain in the ass is it to get the thing out? and what should i look out for?

use that break out drawing...it will show you how to take the dash out. You are probably leaking hot air as it goes into the heater core. You can bypass the heater core. Go to the local parts store and pick up a flush tee or an emergency heater hose repair kit.
If the air coming through the vent is hot. You probably have more problems than that though. If it's just the hot air leak you should still see some cooling. Then again, it may be a big air leak. I'd try to do the bypass first and go from there.

well i think its hot air because its hot as hell outside. im in arizona. at night its not as hot since its not as hot outside. the other vents are fine they blow cold AC air.
