the reason for the smoke is worn out valve seals... after you turn your truck off from driving for a lil while.... the hot oil (which is now thiner then when cold) seaps down threw the seals.... thus causing the smoke durning ignition.... it will not hurt anything.... as long as you keep oil in it...... mine has gotten to the point to where its annoying having to put a qrt. of oil every 2 weeks or so... no leaks from the pan or valve cover..... i changed the valve cover and oil pan gasket after i bought the truck..... its going to cost me like $150 parts and labor to replace the valve seals.... i bought the truck smoking with 100,250 miles and it now has 107,650...... i paid $1200 cash (came with: clutch, slave cyl, belt, distributer, plug wires, plugs, gas filter, oil filter, 5 qrt. oil, master cyl, brake pads and new drumb pads all still in boxes brand new)... it runs and drives like a champ, all ive had to do is replace the slave and master cyls. and of course i went ahead and put the new plugs, wires, distrib., belt, and filters on
