my friend rolled his explorer and wants $750 for it. anyone think i should buy it?

i know this is a b series forum, but this is like the only truck/car forum i go to anymore.

its a 95.

i would have to replace the roof, windshield, and passenger side front door...

find out how much it would cost to buy a roof off a explorer in the junk yard - also find out what the laws are in reguards to rebuilding . i imagine it would have to be checked by some one certified to be able to have it back on the road . States have laws about putting rebuilds on the road.. Theres alot of cars and trucks on the road that aren't safe from dealers/ ppl putting cars together to make a buck. There was a car dealer in delaware at one time that was buying cars out the junkyard and repairing them and selling them on the lot - most of them were Junked/totaled . They got hit with criminal charges , lost bussiness license , fines , And i think one of thier "repaired" cars was involved in a accident and he had to pay for both vehicles . So check your states laws about it see what you can and can not do in reguars to welding a new roof on to it - etc. Other wise i would look in to something else for a daily that is turn key no damage - if your willing to spend 750 on a wrecked truck - then you might as well spend an addtional 300- or so and buy something reliable .

just my thoughts.

I would not buy a rolled or to badly wreked car or truck for my daily i would frist take it to a shop and see what thay say even if you plan to do all the work. thay might see and spot things you dont and thay can inform you of the laws

was it reported totalled? if it wasnt, then it's fair game, no need for inspection

i'd buy it depending on what motor it has

a modular 5.0 would be nice, they also have ford 8.8 rear end which is 5x4.5 bolt pattern

no, it was not reported to insurance or anything. he rolled it, got it pulled out of the ditch, and drove it home.

it really doesn't look that bad, just the passengers side of the roof on the front is caved in and the door frame is bent. and of course the winshield is busted.

im thinking about buying it for another reason though...for the last few weeks i have been finding myself wanting a lifted Bronco II, and i could use the 4.0, tranny, t-case, and 8.8 axle in a B2 and it would be nearly bolt in. as well as useing the Explorer rear leafs for a 1.5" lift.

i could part out what was left after pulling the drivetrain and make most, if not all, of my money back and use that money to find a B2 with a blown motor....

now that would be a idea and well worth the money he is asking just make sure you get everything you need to do the swap

wayyy to many possibilties here and i just cant make up my mind.

1. rebuild it to stock, throw some 20's on it, system, and drive it
2. take the body completely off, sale whats good from the body to buy 2" DOM and tires...build a rollcage and have a cheap offroader...
3. swap everything into a B2
4. just part the whole thing out, and buy something else....
