i have my compressor wired through a pressure switch (85psi-105psi) for my air horn, but not sure that its working right (the pressure switch), i have 8ga. wire ran from the positive post of the battery back to one side of the switch and the other side to the compressor and the ground from the compressor to the frame of the truck, the fuse i have on the wire from the battery is getting a little warm befor the pressure switch has time to kick the compressor off, im usually let my tank air up for about 30seconds to 45seconds then pull the fuse, im afraid its going to screw something up. so what im getting at is there a better way to run the power for the compressor and switch? im sure there is just haven't really done much work with 12 volt compressed air systems.

Dude, you need a relay in there somewhere. The pressure switch is only used to turn the relay on and off, its not meant to bare a load.

what kinda relay do i need?

You can use a Ford starter solenoid if you need something quick. Ask for the solenoid off a 67 Mustang, its $11 and it is a relay. If not, get like an 80 amp Stinger style relay. Some stereo shops have them, but its rare.

damn man, i was like wtf no relay? dude you got to get on dat man, lol, you for sure need a relay, goto a local parts stor and get a relay.

how about this? 12v isolator up to 160amps just like a silonid

That will work just fine. These don't pull anywhere near 160 amps. Lol. You'll never blow that up.

Be careful...most starter soelnoids are not continuous use relays, they are meant for short high current use. Make sure it is a continuous duty one.

Even so, the ones not rated for continuous use, can actually handle it. They are rated for much higher current, and it doesn't phase them much. And AZ might, since they pull around 30 amps.

now heres the problem im getting..... i hooked it up and it didn't work...... so i straight wired the pump to the battery and it is still working..... is there any way that i could get someone to draw like a diagram to hook the isolator up..... i have an isolator, a pressure switch, and the pump....
