Interesting video. Another thought might be to visit a retread shop. The ones I have visited mount the tires on a lathe, then shave the tread down/off. Having an inflated tire on a spinning lathe would yield a much more uniform result.

Having been to many hot rod shows I have seen several wide whites that look very much like what was in the video.

And lets face it, you can probably pick up a used whitewall for free to practice on.

p.s., I think your avitar says it all LOL

dude it works!

we did this last summer to my buddys 64 caddy, shops want an butt load of money for thick white wall tires,my buddy went on the rat rod forums and found the same video so we tried it and worked great

but a word of advice, try it on a scrap tire first, just practice on it till u get the hang of it

Just for safety sake be very careful, and dont use them if you plan to do any highway driving. I've seen this done more than a few times and have seen a couple of blowouts, the sidewall heats up pretty good on the highway. They look pretty cool for just some low and slow cruzin though.
