gas leak? or theft? **solved** thanks guys

i was working on the gauges earlier, i took the gauge cluster out last night and found some 158 replacement leds, so i went to autozone to get them, in the car. and i get home, put the leds in, turned it on and they look great. anyways, i plugged the speedo cable in and drove the car down the street. i noticed i was on 1/4 gallon.... the funny thing is, i just filled up on friday on my way home from work. 8.337 gallons. $25 worth. well, i didnt drive the truck at all yesterday, i drove the car since it was nice out. basically what im saying, i filled up friday, havent driven it since i got home that day, got in it today, had 1/4 gallons... wtf. i live out in the middle of no where, never had a problem with theft or anything. im just wondering... what are the odds its a gas leak somewhere?

i talked to dad about it and i pulled the truck in the garage, im gonna go look occasionally to see if its leaking...

had anyone else had this shit happen?

no but i have noticed that while "gas shopping" if you get the cheapest price you find..... that it burns ridiculously faster then if you get the gas that costs more..... how many miles have you driven since you got gas..... did you dog the gas peddle?

no more then 20 miles. i took it easy cause im pretty broke right now and need to make it last as long as possible,

it isn't rare to have your gas taken.... i park my truck next to my window and keep the window cracked open a lil at night..... i have heard of people going around syfaling gas outa peoples tanks because of the high gas prices..... and you being out in the middle of no where im sure someone would hit you up first..... no neighbors around to see them..... possible.....

true. yet we had 2 big ass dogs, not sure what kind they are. they never sleep. lol. but i think i figured out what it was. i think when i had the gauge out i might have hit the needle. i took the gauge back out plucked it. it moved back up to a lil above 3/4, which seems about right to me. anyways, i think i got it.

I live in a small town, and its not rare to hear of people stealing peoples gas, its juvenile. If you think it has a leak, just start the truck up, have someone look under it and touch the pedal a few times...

Did you unplug the gauge to put those LED dash lights in? If so you may need to fill the tank up, then plug the gauge back in for it to calibrate itself and read correctly again.

If you leaked that much gas that quick you'd be able to smell gas. My friend's Datsun will leak a little gas out of the vent if you fill it up too much, and you can smell gas for days when it happens, and that's with just a small amount of gas leaking out.
