ok, not used to leaving my self open for punishment from the public, but heres the down lo.....

current job, order mat'l for 100 electricians on night shift work from 5:30pm-3:30 am 6-7 days a week...electrician by trade, mat'l expediter secondly.....been ordering mat'l for almost 4 years, make good money...@$23 an hour, have retirement, insurance thru union.... this afternoon when i get to work i got a message to call a guy that was our head supervisor last year...got along most of the time...butted heads once or twice..long story short...he offered me a job working for a company that has been around since 1930...as the head expeditor.....perminate job...
9-5, home every night & on weekends, benefits, retirment plan, vacation, sick leave, & maybe stock paid travel expenses etc.......plus plenty of oportunity to advance....no word on the money yet as i just sent him my resume...only drawback...have to move to tampa fla..(not that it is a drawback )...& i don't know how the fiance will act....this is home for us & we both have family here....but if we were going to relocate now would be the time as we're both still fairly young & havn't had any kids yet....

question is if the money is right, would i be stupid not to take it if the fiance has objections.....my thought is perminate job..which is hard to come across in the const. ind., more money, less hours, better opportunity to retire sooner.....

As long as it pays more and they pay for your move then take the job! If they dont pay for you move dont take it! Unless of course your just driving there with nothing. But find out the cost of living there its probably higher than alabama. I use to live in B-ham you could get a 3 bdrm apt for 800. The wife and I up here had a 1bdrm apt for $1200/mth!

If you check out all of that and you make more and its relatively the same for living expenses then move!

yea what he said if you the raise is offset to bad by the Cost of living then is it really a raise and talk to your GF if you do plan to get mairred then it effects her just as much as you

It isnt always about the money. If u really want to be happy take the job because it is something U want to do.The only time in my life that I have been really unhappy with a job is one that I took because the money was great. My wife hated the town where we had to move (B'ham by the way) and I lasted about 2 years and quit.If U and the fiance' are happy then the job will be fine. here is my 2 cents. I am in the construction trade, I have been in it for almost 13yrs. I have been offered job with more time at home and more money but the more I looked into it I would be making the same thing I was. I lived in Flordia for 15 yrs moved to GA about 3 yrs ago. The cost of living, insurance, and just about everything else is more expensive in Fl. Apartments and houses in a good area are way over priced. Couple things to rember where your at you work with a union better insurance and everything else threw the union.Last thing the grass always looks greener on the other side but once you get there it is just the same . Good luck with what ever you choose.

presh all the replies!
money isnt' everything & if the fiance isn't happy the money don't matter, also same with me too...but i told her that at least i will be home every night... & weekends...which she likes. the money will deff have to offset the difference in cost of living + moving cost + more money too.....union ins isn't the best....it gets paid according to how much you work.. x amount of hours a month gets put into a "bank" if you work more than what is needed to cover the cost of ins for a month, you don't increase the hours in your "bank".....the extra hours go to some big wigs pocket....& so if your sick or lay out of work...you'll end up having to pay out of pocket because you wont' have enough hours in the "bank" to cover the monthly cost of ins.......

bj i don't blame the wife...i don't really care for b'ham either!!!!

i don't have but @ 6-8 mo left on this job & then what.....may be able to get a job out of the hall in a day or two, or it could be a month or two, so i figure it can't be too bad, i will keep my ticket current @ the hall so i can always fall back on it if need be. if i was to go down there say for 6 mo & if i like the job / area, then she could move down, if not, then find another job or maybe one will come up near huntsville...bellefonte is supposed to get a "facelift" starting in about 2010....always got to keep your options open.....& diversifying into the mat'l / expediting end of the business is just good business....mom always said don't put all your eggs in one basket...

thanks again for the input!

You'll regret leaving your families imo. We did, (parents did I had no choice ), and missed a lot of time with my family. When we came back it was like I barely knew some of them and missd on possibly growing up as best friends. As bad as I miss FL at times, I won't leave my family again.

Hey whatever you do dont move to DC!!! Making 70k a year here like 25k everywhere else! So freakin expensive!!

yeah, i checked a cost of living expense calculator on this site my buddy put me on to...you put in what you made last year, where you live now & where you are moving to & it gives you a ball park figure of what you need to make to live close to how you are now....so i put in 78k & h'ville al, & tampa fla.....it said i would need to make 99k a year to be the same.....so if they want me it's gonna cost em pretty good...to make 100k in a year @ 40 hr a week i would have to make $49 an hour.. & i'm fairly sure it will be a salary based job instead of hourly pay...in which they won't have to pay overtime on salary based...so ya gotta figure in a couple extra bux an hour to cover for that agrivation....& a couple bux for extra padding cause the 99K is close, so you don't wanta sell yourself short, plus sign on bonus & cost of moving expenses ...just a rough guestimate...$60 an hour +
2.5 - 5k sign on bonus & them cover any moving expenses.....

as far as the families thing, my mom lives @ 1.5 hours away, dad/g-pa are five min down the road, bro & wife are five min...her mom & pop are 45 min.... it will probably be harder on her than me, i moved out at 16....don't get to see any of my family that much, but her & her mom are close....but here mom has take up more so with her bro than her because he lives closer & that sorta rubs her the wrong way.....she didn't want to live right under moms wing anyway....
