Taxes in Canada
-Personal income tax returns are due by April 30th, as is any amount owing. Penalties and interest may be charged for late returns or late payments.
-Self-employed individuals have until June 15th to file their personal tax returns, but any amounts owing must still be paid by April 30th.
I have my taxes (both personal & business) done by an accountant so he can e-file and I get my refund faster. Also, he acts as a buffer between the Revenue Canada ghouls and me.
My refund should be pretty interesting this year, for a few reasons:
1. 9 years after my divorce, I will finally be able to deduct one of my children as a spousal-equivalent due to the fact that my 16-year old now lives with me;
(My son laughed when I told him he was now my spousal-equivalent.)
2. I will be deductiong about $4800 of spousal support;
(Gee, I could have bought a decent B2000 or B2200 or repaired my Honda CIvic wagon with this money, but instead it went to an ex-wife who is happy just to leech off me instead of getting a real job - she has a degree in Accounting and only works as a receptionist - despite tons of jobs opening up with all the Boomers retiring. Good thing the spousal support payments ended on December 31, 2006.)
3. I will be deducting my oldest son's university tuition.
(Finally, some compensation for having kids. LOL)
Cheers !!
