i am looking for tools for my garage so that when i get moved in i can get to work. i went to lowes today and the have a Kobalt air compressor that is 80 gal, 2 stage. 2 piston, 175 psi max, belt driven compressor for about 900 bucks. what do you guys think? it also comes with a 3 year warranty. good buy or not?

among my other need to buy tools are...sawzall, 4 1/2" grinder, welder, torch, and a few other little things. i can't wait to get my garage hooked up, woohoo!

sounds like a good buy, my store here bought ours craftsman for 1200 with an 80 gallon take and same set up on the compressor, and its worked awesome for 4 years now

the compressor is a pretty good buy, tractor supply sells ingersoll-rands, 5 H.P.† 230V two-stage air compressor. This compressor has 175 max. PSI and 80 gal. ASME tank. 15.8 CFM @ 90 PSI. 100% continuous duty all cast iron 2-stage pump. 230V single phase motor with no starter required. Finned intercooler. Mounted discharge valve. Extended design life - 15,000+ hrs. Comes with 2-year industrial grade pump warranty, on-site service and all season synthetic lubricant included. for $1020, i just like i-r better, but hey they are all about the same.

as far as the others, invest in a good 18v tool set, i got a hitachi w. 1/2" drill, sawzall, light, and skill saw for under $300 @ lowes, i bought a cheap grinder @ wally world for @$20, on the welder, 230v mig, and a plasma cutter would be instead of a torch rig, but hey we can all dream lol!

yeah i love ingersol rand, but i thought they were more expensive than that. i may need to go ahead and look into there compressors. i would love to get a plasma cutter but i think that will have to wait a little while. as for the other tools, i think i am going to go with dewalt. the grinder and sawzall will both be electric but i have a ton of air tools too, so...

yeah, the grinder is a definate for a cord, but on the sawzall, i just hate having to drag a cord around.....i.e attic work , etc....

maybe when i get some time away from "folsom prison" i can muster getting that i-r that my dad has over to my house & get it hooked up & run some hard lines with a drop on each side of the garage, and a water filter next to the comp., i'm gonna trade him for my little craftsman, its a 33 gal 3.5 hp, which is good enough for what he needs...

I really need a good compressor. I have a lot of bodywork to do,and my dad just bought a pretty sweet air tool set,but I still need a DA sander.

I've got most of the tools I need to work on my truck now,I'm just lacking the shop, lol.

Well,I have one of those 11x16' tent-like car shelters....better than nothing I suppose, even if it is a 45 min drive to get to,lol.

I was told that if you are planning on using a DA sander, DO NOT use anything smaller than an 80 gallon tank!

It was also recommended that it have a tri-piston motor.

The one the guy had that was 60 gallon, was $700. Lol, and at my budget, thats one HELL of an invest! I know now I can't afford my 80 gallon dream! I can't believe this, lol, I'm planning on getting into the auto body field, and all I can spend my money on is my addiction to my truck! LOL!

I need a better job, or two...

BTW, I was told the Kobalt brand from Lowes is more of the kind of thing, you get what you pay for... But if it has a 3 year warranty, that is a juicy little paper to have!

I went to princess auto bought a 110,220 volt electric motor a 2 pump compressor and found a 80 gal tank for $75.00 and put it together in the end when done I spent $375.00 and when I compare to what the same size and power is I saved around $600.00. Got to love buy and sell magazine and Princess auto.

i love princess auto, i modified an electric oiled compressor, into a gas driven one just with a few weld on pulleys from them, a belt, and a pressure/throttle switch, works like a chaaaaaarm
