It seems simple enough: push the pedal and the clutch will disengage, allowing you to shift gears. If your clutch isn't working properly, however, you'll hear grinding noises telling you it's time for a new clutch. If you don't want to take your car to a garage, follow these steps to replace your car's clutch yourself.

depends on your mechanical abilities. being a 4x4 not sure if you have to remove the transfer case but you will def have to remove the transmission in order to get to the clutch.

transfer case is intergrated into the trannie, it's a straight removal for what I have seen. Can be done in 2 hours with experienced hands and air tools. not counting resurfacing time for the flywheel.

easy steps. #1 remove slave cylinder from trans (don't need to touch the line) and starter. Also any wiring that may be on the transmission.
#2 remove shifter from inside the cab. you'll have 2 with this one
#3 drain the oil from the trans
#4 remove the driveshaft. 4 bolts on the rear and I imagine same for front.
#5 unbolt trans mount, should be 2 bolts. Also unbolt the trans crossmember (leave in place for now.)
#6 put jack under trans, jack up slightly
#7 remove bellhousing bolts
#8 remove crossmember
#9 Rocking the trans up and down a couple times, start pushing AWAY from engine. I only weigh about 140 and have removed Mazda transmissions in driveways a couple of times, and I can handle the weight easy. With the xfer case it might be a bit heavier but it shouldn't be too bad still.

rest is easy work, install reverse of removal.
