your driveshaft is shoved into your transmission, really bad. need to get your driveshaft shortened.

not sure if this is true in all cases, but i thought that peice of metal around the tail end of the tranny is supposed to be connected to the driveshaft, and not sitting on the tail shaft. it's supposed to be a "boot" to keep dirt away. i think blare has oneof those. but could be different since yours is an older model

but yea, your driveshaft is shoved in andyour output seal is starting to tear apart. for temp solution, just get another output seal and try not to drive too low until you get a chance to get your driveshaft shortened

ya i understand that, and i was thinking the same thing about the boot, but my driveshaft has always been like that and ive been driving it like this for almost and year and no problems and how would shortening my driveshaft fix this?

Is your truck aired up or layed out in the picture?

shortening the driveshaft will cause it to be not shoved in

Your output seal is f u c k e d I wouldnt drive it all like that

i did the same thing on mine, ive done quite a bit of damage to mine in other ways too lol

when u drop the truck the shaft pushes forward cuz its being straightend out and if u push to far in u pop the seal, i shortened mine 1.5 inches and it works fine

lol (push to deep and u pop the cherry and it bleeds)

Yeah that is a dust boot, that should be attatched to the driveshaft-- thats where the clicking noise came from -- it looks like what everyone else has said, the drive shaft has shoved into the tail of the tranny, probably been doing it for a while ,the dust boot just finally broke off. I'd get the seal fixed asap if its an auto tranny. A buddy had his seal go bad on the way to MT Nats one year, and had to be towed because it leaked out enough to burn up his tranny and we had only driven about an hour and half before he found out it was leaking. A manual should be a lot more forgiving though...just keep checking and/or adding gear oil..

As Mark said, that does not look good!

It looks like the tranny tail end broke off at section 1
Is part #2 broken off?
Part #4, the female spline should be lined up to part #2, but it looks cocked.
It looks shoved in really bad.

Good luck!

thanks guys, how much would shortening a driveshaft range? and would this mess up my 3 link measurements?

and yes its a manual 5 speed
