backhalfing is bassicly re-doing the frame from the cab back, but i think im going to uuuhh, quarter it, just redo from the notches back.

damn look at the rust, you should have cleaned all that garbage off to prevent further rust.

and itd be better in the long run if you just went ahead and back halfed it
lucky13   +1y
how hard is it to backhalf?

grind off which rust, the body or the frame, or both?

all the gunk on your control arms and tie rods and all that good stuff.

it isnt hard but you have to be precise on your measurements and all that such, welds have to penetrate good and bracing the frame is always good

will a hobart 125 flux core penitrate good enough, and im sure id have to gusset the hell outta it.

btw, i might just go to the junkyard im getting all my parts for and snatch the steering linkage stuff off this blazer, which im getting all my other parts for off it.

My Mazdas backhalfed its not hard, if u can fab, i just took some measurements then busted out the torch and cut the ass end off, i wouldn't trust a hobart 125 flux welder to do any kind of frame work though, heat and penetration is a big deal if u dont wanna loose the ass end of ur truck, Mines not real crazy or anything but i'll post a pic and u can get an idea, i've redid alot of it though since this pic...

yeah, you need a mig-gas welder
sketchystreet   +1y
i dont recomend any 120 welder. ive never had any luck with them. i guess its alright for body work. you can get a 220 for like 6-700 bucks like a miller or a hobart. and it will weld up to like 3/8

got the rearend stripped down ready for notches and crossmembers.

knocked off all the old shock mounts and other misc. mounts and the x-members...
