So my brakes dont function properly. my brake pedal goes almost to the floor and then the brakes finally engage. i bled the brakes and it didnt help. im assuming i dont have a leak because the master cylinder is full and has been since the problem started over three months ago. ive been driving it the whole time. could it be the brake booster or has the master gone out??

if i pump my brakes the engine spudders....any advise? help me out!im also getting about 13 mpg in a 2.0 L. NOT GOOD

Yeah it sounds like the booster is bad. I would replace both the booster and master cylinder. This sounds almost identical to a Toyota Camry I recently fixed. The pedal would go almost to the floor because of the bad booster.

yeah thats what i figured but i wanted to get a second opinion. did you get horrible mpg too? just wondering.

I don't think the MPG was affected. It is my parents car, and they hardly drive lol

I guess it could make sense for your engine to work harder to make up for the booster not working properly, or a vacuum leak from the booster. Engine vacuum is over my head. Does it seem to idle at a higher RPM?

exactly what my truck is doing. did you ever figure out the prob?
Press the brakes all the way down and hear the engine idle pick up a little bit. so means the brake booster has a leak or just not functioning properly.

the booster hoses dont seem like the clamps hold tight either, as i can spin and wiggle the rubber hoses around
hoses are cracked or broken....yet. But no brake fluid leaking, would prefer not to have to replace the master cylinder if i can.
sorry to revive this old thread but only thing that came up through search
