Ive been through many vehicles before, but never a mazda ( i own one yes but its technically a ford lol) What should I look for when getting an older style mazda? 89 B2200 ext cab auto, with 180k miles on it. was told it was an older gentlemens before this kid got it, but i know how that goes lol. says it has a weber carb on it, static drop with "removed torsion bars", mono leafed and 4 inch blocks. Only reason i'm considering it is because he's giving $2,000 to boot with his truck. hes also giving a set of 6 lug chrome yota rims, a yota bumper, all the stock parts for susp. and a bed cover. just want some opinions and advice when looking it over, im a mechanic but not familiar with mazda motors at ALL.

wow man , sounds like a deal! just make sure the tranny fluid dosnt smell burnt . alot of the a/t mazdas were rode hard and the trannys usually start slippin. but if it runs good dosnt smoke or shift funny.

he completely romoved the torsion bars? ok, ive heard this done before, but it is not a good thing. not saying dont buy it for this reason, just if he did this, what else could have he done? check the frame toward the rear leaf springs for rust, i know a lot of guys have problems with frame rot. if its worth over 1500 bux bring a compression tester. do a dry and wet test on it. and make sure it hasnt been started before you got there. check coolant, and trans fluid. look for leaks, or excessive grease build up. maybe check some of the easily replaceable wear items that he could have not cared to relpace. like belts and hoses and ball joints, and maybe u joints. just another thing to see how this vehicle has been maintained. if you have a suspision at all, tell him you would like to take it on a test drive, and not just around the block either. take it on a good 50 mile test drive to check for all noises, clunks, bangs, anything out of the ordinary. smoking, over heating, blah blah blah. and post some pics of this baby

Thats a pic of it, hes giving all stock parts to put it back to stock, I think I'm going to bag it and put a system in it with the boot hes giving. its got chrome and black grille with it. Now, my question is being an 89 is it a rotary motor? or is it a regular 4 banger?

only pre 84's used rotary's. your is a 4 banger unless its been swapped to something different

thats good to hear, I wouldnt even know where to start working on a rotary lol, that makes me feel alot better about getting it, the suspension I can fix myself for sure.
