Finally Found One

I went to the salvage yards today and finally found an older model tailgate with the raised "MAZDA" lettering! I guess it's not a big deal to anyone but me, my wife thinks I'm crazy, but I've been looking for this since I bought my truck. Hopefully soon I'll have the letters grafted into my tailgate.

Yeah it's from an early 80's truck. I wish it would have been from a 70's truck with the angular "D"... that's what I really want. But this is good.

daaang, it's got the diesel stamp on it too. Do the older tail gates bolt up to the newer beds???

I don't think they bolt up to the newer beds. I was going to cut the "MAZDA" section out and weld it into my tailgate, but I might be thinking about something different now.

i actually like this style better than the 70's style. i like the lettering better. preety neat to see the progression on tail gate stamping actually! lol from punched out in the early 70's, and another punched out redesign like this one from the early 80's, to punched in in the mid 80's to the sticker in the 90's...

Man you should post up when you are looking for something. I've passed by severl gates like that in much better shape. I would have gladly got it for you, cut the section out and shipped it to you.

I like how a bigger section of it is recessed near the tailgate handle like that, not just the pocket like it is on the 2nd gennies. Mikey next time ya see one PM me with the price of the tailgate and (your) removal fee. I might try to make an arrangement to pick it up.

Yeah emjay I sure will. All I ask is what they want for a gate which is like $30 and whatever shipping is. If I'm already at the junkyard its no problem to grab it. And for cutting it out that's a piece of cake I'm just happy to help out.
