Ok,

so ive read on the net that there are a few different types of trasmissions. The one in my truck has a transfer case attached to it, its a b2600 trans. I definitely want to keep 4x4 ability

I started a project to swap in a land rover V8 (should be no more than 230 ft/lbs of tq) into this truck as my engine just died and really love this truck and I dont want to get rid of it. I am having some trouble getting a line a shop that will make me a bellhousing for this project and I thought I would ask all of you since ive seen some awesome things done on this forum:

1. is this trasmission going to hold up to the torque? what else is an option if I wanted a bolt-in replacement and to keep 4x4

2. Does anyone make a Bellhousing adaptor (I believe this has a buick/chev bolt pattern as the rover V8 is really a buick Alum 215)

I need to weigh the options here, I dont have a whole bunch of cash but I really want to make this happen.

I don't believe that there is a kit to mate a B2600 trans to a land rover V8. However one can be made by any competent machine shop. You are going to have a lot more to worry about than the simplicity of the bellhousing. You will also have to consider the starter, the flywheel and trans mount if the engine pushes the trannie back further.
Also, by making an adaptor, you are going to have to compensate for the extra material that will be added. If the spacer is 1/2" thick, then you are going to have to shave that 1/2" from the back of the motor or from the current bellhousing.
An idea I just had here, you might be able to make the hole for the range rover starter in the adaptor plate and thread the plate for the starter bolts.
Dealwithit over on MT had a custom flywheel made for his Benz diesel swap, combining the flywheel from the B2600 and the 300 turbo diesel so it used the starter from the diesel. His engine also had a plate on the back of it which he got shaved down by the thickness of the adaptor plate that he made.

Here is the link to his build. I do note that the engines are different but a lot of the techniques he used would apply for your build as well.

in my truck, the engine is more forward towards the rad... i dont think there was enough room for a stock camaro serpentine driven fan, there is an aftermarket fan with no clutch on... have about an inch of room before the rad. i want to set up some (or one big) electric fan... have to decide between puller or pusher... maybe one of each.

i'm not sure how much more meat my bellhousing has over a stock one.

Thanks for the reply emjay!
Last night I pulled the engine from my B2600 and took a good look at the flywheel and clutch setup, this revealed good and bad (as always):

Good:
Both clutch splines are identical and the rover clutch slides on the mazda transmission.

Bad:
a. The rover flywheel is about 1.5 inches larger than the mazda flywheel, and the rover clutch assembly is too large to fit in the bell-housing by about 1/2 inch, and of course this means that the flywheel itself will never fit inside that bell-housing.

b. Mazda's flywheel sticks out from the engine 4.5cm, the Rover sticks out 3.5cm. This isnt really as bad I guess, sort of good actually.

It would appear that mating the Type-R to this block will be a challenge for sure and thats just the transmission. On the Engine mount side of things (which will vary largely on what is done to adapt the trans of course) the stock Mazda mounts will need to be move forward -or- I will need to make some sort of custom engine mount to utilize the stock mazda gear.

I am going to give this alot of thought, I will also consider using a T5 (as I known there are bell-housings that will bolt) the trick of course on that is finding a transfer case to match and then splicing the driveline (and ive not had a welder for years)

How much do you suppose I could sell the engine (parts only, lots of blow-by going on) and the trans/xfer case for?
