The torsion bars have a load on them by twisting the front adjuster. This gives you your reboundlike the coils in a spring . When you loosen the adjuster you reduce the tortsonal load on the bars, thus rendering them rather useless.
To prevent this when lowering the truck, you re-index them so that you get your drop as well as keep the torsional load that gives you a better ride. If you want a big drop, re-indexing is the best way to do it.
