Don't feel bad I can recall several stories like yours.
I was trying to sell my first hot rod. It had the Mr Gasket three red butterfly air cleaner that was made to look like a Hilborn injector.
I also had the hood pined front and back. Anyway, at lunch break I went out to the parking lot to show the guys under the hood.
They all admired it and we went back to work.
As I was leaving at the end of the shift, I pulled out of the parking lot and nailed it.
It was great for a while. Then I noticed the hood floating higher and higher until it just sailed away into the air. It landed flat on the road, not even a ding or scratch. Man, was I relieved.
Put the front hood pins back on, and went to drive home. Again, all was well, then I noticed the rear of the hood start to float higher, and higher until it just sailed away.
This time it did not land face down. It ruined my new paint job, and the hard to find factory hood scoop.
