I'm planning on getting a welder soon and I wanted some opinions. I plan, in the future, to put my truck on air along with shaving some things. I was looking at the Hobart handler 140 for a while because I don't have a dedicated 220 anywhere near the truck and I would need a LONG extension cord to use one, but I've also been lookin at the 210 mvp. So my main thing is would the 140 be sufficient for air parts? Even using multiple passes would that be ok? I'm not trying to cop out but if I could get by with the 140 I would prefer that.

Links for comparison:

The handler would work fine for most of the items just as long as you do your prep work on the area to be welded. The only disadvantage with the smaller hobart is that the welds wont penetrate as deeply into the metal, but minor grinding of a V into the areas to be welded will help to increase the welds integrity. However personally I am a Miller or Lincoln welder fan myself but that is just my personal preference.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick response to. Yea I'll just make sure to practice a lot on the thicker stuff before and get into some structural welding. Any and all input is welcome.

Also, use the solid wire and gas as opposed to the flux core wire.......you'll find it's much easier to get good welds that way and it helps create a stronger weld too.

i think the 140 will do just about everything you need it too. you might even heat the metal up if you had to. but it will do good imo. i have a hobart and im letting a buddy use it on his hardbody and he is getting great penetration on everything hes done so far

Thanks axel i'll definitely be using solid wire when it comes to the truck. Yea I haven't heard anything really bad about Hobart so that's a plus, thanks for your comment hunter.

Hobart is made by miller!

A 140 will be just fine for damn near anything u need to do to one of these trucks...
