Well Thanks, Dawg!!
I was feeling kinda left out.., ya know!! I did lube the speedo cable too, as I thought that was it, but I guess I was preemie in thinking that I got rid of the noise completely, because it is still there but very faint. Maybe it is a vacuum advance issue.
I sucked on the diaphragm hose, and it holds vacuum ok, so I will just drive it like that, cause, for the life of me, I can't completely get rid of the lifter tick either. Even after the engine shop boiled everything (including the valve train parts), I also cleaned and soaked everything and used a small wire to ensure that all passages were cleared. I even went and drilled/enlarged the restricter that is inserted into the oil galley/port in the top of the block where it mates the gasket and head, to allow a little more oil feed to the valve train. I just enlarged it a little, cause it has to have back pressure there to get a lot of oil to the main bearings, I am guessing.
It is important to, when re-assembling the valve train rockers and shafts, that everything has the proper orientation..,, i.e all oil passages are lined up to allow continuous oil flow. So even after I put a new camshaft ,new lifters, after bleeding them by moving the little ball bearing away and pumping them up while immersed in oil, I still have that damn tick!! It starts up very quiet, but as soon as it warms up it starts in with the noises.
I guess you can say that I am OCD, but If I am going to put all of this time and effort into a rebuild, then da88it,I want it to sound like a new engine!!! I think I will run straight 40 vis. as this is Central Texas, and it never gets below 25 degrees here anyway!! So sorry for the long winded message, but it is good that this forum is here, cuz MT is gone, and I just gotta get this off my chest!!
Thanks for listening!!!and If you can help me with some repair info.., then holla back!!
