The fuel gauge in my b2200 goes well below the empty mark when filled up, eventually it starts to climb above the empty mark almost to the 1/4 tank level, and then begins to sink again to empty. I've seen some silly gauges before but i've never had one do this. Normal is to work at some point toward full and then start doing silly things when you've at least part of the fuel used up. Any clues?, do you think some idiot before me hooked up the ground to the wrong side of the unit? or could there be another reason for this. Thanks for thinking about this one on the forum.

hey, my gauge after filling up would only work upto about 1/2, sometimes a bit more/less. i had to drop the tank out, remove the sender unit and ended up making sure the little arm was touching the little wire coiled part of the sender which reads the level of the float. i had to bend mine slightly in so that it was making contact throughout its whole motion. while the tank was out i tested the dash gauge from the sender wires (the dash gauge was fine). from memory i think the wiring side is a one way/fit plug, so you cant put it on the wrong way. put it back together and now all is good. hope that helps.

No, only one way to connect the wires. Most likely faulty sending unit, common on these trucks after about 15 years.
