Hi - just joined. trying to replace water pump in my '91 B-2600i. can't figure out how to disconnect the two halves of the fan shroud. i know there has to be a trick to disconnecting the little plastic rivets that hold the top and bottom halves together but i cannot figure it out. ANY HELP
thanks, bill

I never separated my two halves so I'm not sure, but I think you have to cut them, and then get some new fasteners to re-attch them. I would probably just remove the whole shroud if you need some more working room and leave the halves attached.

wouldn't mind, but need to get the shroud out of the way to remove the fan so i can get the whole shroud out intact. maybe i can work around it and pull the fan off. i just know the rivets are some sort of puzzle that should be able to be reused.

thanks, bill

Here is a quick peek at the bottom side of the rivets...

Yes like 91_2600i said you will have to cut them, that is what the original owner of my truck had to do too. Its now held on with zip ties

Thanks for the great pic - where did you get it? yup, that's them. guess i'll have to try to get the fan off before pulling the whole shroud, or cut them as 'ram23' confirms. dealership says they are still available cheap enough, but will take a while to get in.

know of any good info on this site describing how to efficiently go about replacing the water pump on this engine? especially common pitfalls to avoid. i think i'm already in over my head, but planning to press on. i can get a wrench on the nuts holding the fan/clutch on, but will be very difficult not to drop them, and then still not sure the assembly will just lift out. if i can get the shroud out and the fan out of the way, it looks like i might be able to do this without pulling the radiator.

any help is GREATLY appreciated,
thanks again, bill

Yes, I would try to get the nuts off the fan clutch assembly and pull out the fan/fan clutch assembly first. That's what I've done on other vehicles.

If you separate, I'd use nuts/bolts to keep the halves together, as zip/cable ties do become brittle after a while when exposed to heat.

The water pump on a B2600i is easy to change, just unbolt it and bolt up a new one........I use the Ultra Grey RTV on both sides of the gasket also.

got the water pump replaced without having to cut the shroud or pulling the radiator. seems to be working fine. thanks for the help, good to find this site.
now let's see about getting the heater fan working again.

Remember, the blower resistor is typically the culprit if the blower fan only runs fast speed. There are only two wires to the fan, check to see if it's getting votage there in any speed.

Also see Member's write up area, I have a thread on blower fans and resistors.

If you PM with E-mail address, I can E-mail an AC/heater wiring diagram to you.
