heater fan stopped working a while back. i read about the resistor problem if the blower works only on high, but this one doesn't work at all. thought it might be a fuse, but the owners manual is a little vague about which fuse controls the fan. it mentions a breaker (complete with reset button, which was popped out) in the fuse panel under the dash. tried to reset (push in the reset button), button stayed in, but still no fan. i will probably pull the breaker and see if i get continuity across it with the button pushed in. if not i could replace it. i do seem to remember that the fan did squeal once in a while before it went out, so maybe the fan motor just went.

any suggestions or best guesses as to which way to go on this? how hard is it to get to the fan? there seem to be a couple available online, if i can determine that it is getting juice but not turning. also does anyone know if the "breaker" in the fuse box is the controlling fuse for the fan?

thanks for any help, bill

Yes, the breaker is the safety for the blower motor. The motor isn't hard to get to. You could look under the dash and figure it out or look in a manual. I would take the motor out and put some power to it. If it spins you have a regulator problem. If not, you get a new blower.

The blower is held in by 3 phillips screws and can be removed without removing the entire assembly from under the dash. Pulling the little computer that's behind the passenger kick panel helps for getting the screws and motor out. Takes just a couple mins to replace. Did mine a week ago

10 minute job to remove the blower fan. Mine was held in by 3-hex head screws (8mm head), ditto on loosening the ECU for better access.

Once out, you can test the fan motor (2 wires), and also test for voltage at the now-accessible connectors.

If you do need a fan motor, these sell for about $30, can be obtained through AutoZone, NAPA, others. You'll need to swap over your squirrel cage fan. And don't be surprised if you find that you need to cut a recess out of the bottom housing for the new fan motor to fit in perfectly (ask me how I know this).

Also when I replaced mine in 09/10 can't recall I added about 1 ft of extra wiring bc the blower wiring seemed to be kind of short.I did this soley bc it makes it easier to drop down on the floor and yes I did use proper gauge wire, conn, and heat shrinked the connecting points. Also note how you reconnect wires to blower bc if reversed the blower blows backwards.Duh I did this.No air circulation thru vents.
