hello every1 i got a 89 mazda b2200 2.2L new motor and truck was running fine but i had to fuk with it it bothers me when i know how stuff was mounted on my original motor. Example the distributor the advancement slot or adjustment slot the bolt was dead center basically equal sides of slot on each side of the bolt. I had my mechanic put get the motor running and timed in and the distributor was almost all the way forward (moved almost all the way to the front of the truck). That bothered me really bad so i got the engine to TDC then removed the cap then pulled the distributor out centered it and put the rotor aiming towards #1 plug wire on cap put it all back together, and started truck on my timing light has a advance dial so i put it at 6 degrees and when the light was flashing on the crank the timing mark on the harmonic balancer was way past T on the timing cover i move the distributor to get it on the 6 degree mark and the distributor placement on the slot is worst its almost maxxed out moved all the way toward the front of the truck PLEASE help i really cant stand these pieces of shit mazdas anymore. Note i have a 86 2.0 and the distributor is centered on the slot truck runs perfect. Also my crank gear is at the mark on the oil pump and number 1 marked on the camshaft on that upper mark when im doing this i did this about 30 times i just dont understand what im doing wrong.

i even moved the distributor with the timing light to where it was hitting 6 degrees on the lower timing cover and shut the truck off took the cap off qnd noted where the rotor was and the distributor then pulled the distributor out and centered it and i kept the rotor in line where the distributor was previously and still the same truck running and the mark is flashing wayy after T

Ok read your post.If it were me I would remove your timing cover top and bottom and make sure your cam and top gear are true, and crank is aligned 100% in the groove at that.It sounds like your tb is a tooth off.Unless I am just overlooking the obvious and read too fast.Just my quick response and when I did my tb had zero problems lining this up (granted no removal of distrib) but mines dead center on diz.

the timing marks on the cam and crank gear are dead on thats what i was thinking maybe a tooth off, but its dead on right. When the engine is at TDC i marked the harmonic balancer timing mark with white paint and when the timing gear is aligned up with the oil pump mark, the harmonic balancer mark is dead on the T mark on the lower timing cover. i got the truck running and timed again but the distributor is maxed out still (towards the front all the way) i read my haynes book says have engine to TDC when the distributor is out theres a mark on the distributor and a dimple mark (drill mark) on the distributor gear says dont let the rotor turn while its being installed i cant install it without me moving it so it will go all the way in i donno i got my mechanic coming over tomorrow to check it. i re-checked the timing again with the light and the mark is flashing at 6 degrees before top dead center with vacuum on and 800 idle..

i think im over thinking this i can put my distributor in any way i want right? as long as the rotor is lined up with #1 on the cap doesnt matter how it sits in the motor any info???

Essentially: yes. For example, when the engine turns to TDC for #1, then the rotor should be under the distributor cap terminal/spark plug wire that goes to #1 cylinder. And when the engine turns to TDC for #3, then the rotor should be under the distributor cap terminal/spark plug wire that goes to #3 cylinder. Etc. Now, I listed #1 first and #3 second, the firing order on the 88-93 B2200 is 1-3-4-2 with 1 being the cylinder at the front of the truck.

People rebuilding old VW engines encounter issues installing the distributor drive shaft correctly, so their distributors are frequently out-of-kilter, similarly.

What I tell them to do (as they'd need a special tool to extract/align that drive shaft) is just leave it alone, and mark the wire positions with the correct numbers, like on the distributor cap.

Adjustments to ignition timing (OK, this only should need to be done once) would be made as per regular way.

Picture of correct distributor orientation is in this link, with positions numbered:
