So I have a chrome grille that has peeled/cracked and I have painted it black... But nothing will stick to it!
I have sanded the whole thing down used adhesion promoter and all kinds of stuff and within 1-2 months there is always spots of yellow/chromey looking stuff showing through. And then it starts peeling and then I start over again. I've painted the damn thing like 3 times. The grille is in good shape so I don't wanna buy a new one but I starting to think that's my only option.

I've tried using rustolem and duplicolor paints. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Have access to a sandblaster? On my old VW i had some chrome plastic parts i blasted and it worked pretty well. I saw a can at pepboys of something that helps paint stick. Dont know how well it will work on Chrome plastic, cant remember the name but it was in a spray can. I might be going there later, ill see what it says. But yeah with the chrome on there, its hard to keep the paint on it. Gotta peal it all off i had to clean my sand after i blasted before, cause it would plug up the gun.

Scuff the crap out of it with a red scotch brite the use an etch primer for bare metal then paint it. Should be able to get something in a spray can from the parts store

Fred - I used Krylon Fusion aerosol from O'Reillys to paint my B2200 plastic lower grille, it's designed to stick to plastics without a pre-coat. It looks good.

Yeah, sand off what you can.

Thank you guys. I'll try and scuff off more...

Paint won't stick to the chrome, need to remove and have bare plastic. Bleach will take the chrome plating off of plastic. I've done it for my emblems for my car. Example

I'll have to try that bleach method, thanks for posting that.
