Well guys my wife's grandma just filled my tank and I parked and saw a drip drip drip coking from near the tank... I took a look and it isnt coming from any of the lines. Not the filler or the one next to it or any going toward the front of the truck and the area for sending unit is dry. The only place that is wet is the Seam around the tank. Does anyone know of a way to "fix" this untill i can buy a new rank I'm jobless and nobody has any cash to help... I use this daily and I don't wanna be a fire hazard... Please help guys

had that problem wit my 86 b2000 just dont fill above half a tank until u can get a new one and if maybe u can pin point the leak get a wire brush clean it up and take some sand paper and JB weld it that might work

Thanks man that's kind of what I'm thinking... I can't seem to pinpoint the leak though...

Fred - I've never used JB Weld on a fuel tank, but if you get the fuel level below the leak, there are special epoxy formulas designed for gas tank repair. These include Loctite

Thanks Cuss. Any ideas on how to find the leak? I've searched and searched... The leak has almost stopped now just a drip ever couple min. I'll check that link out and I'll see about getting some of that epoxy stuff.

How to find the leak - good question. Here, I'd tilt the bed for better access, you've likely got snow where you are.

Absolutely sure it's not from some overflow while fueling up?

Yeah I'm pretty sure the top of the tank is completely dry. It seems to be coming from around the edges of the Seam. But it has stopped leaking and it's nowhere near half a tank its just under full... And no snow here but I have my cab and bed kind of linked I have subwoofers mounted in the bed and ported to the cab... I think I'll wait till my tank is bout empty and then drop the tank and take a better look. Any tricks to removing the tank? Anything special I need to look out for? Thanks as always.

Yes just lubricate the bolts/nuts for the straps before like a day or two.Liquid wrench or pb and you just unhook the filler neck and clamps(they will be dirty) and you might want to get some new clamps for those prior.I would brake clean the seem this removes the residue better and dries clean.Good luck and yeah I dropped my tank yrs ago and did the same process, minus fixing a leak, bad sender.
