anyone know where i can get some decently priced headbolts, any auto stores or good places online? all because i got a pos felpro gasket (normally good gaskets) i have to again replace my headbolts, intake mani gasket, head gasket, and drop the oil pan again to clean it. thought there was a reason it keeps blowing as i started that stupid ass thread earlier but no luck. my truck never went above the second cool mark on the temp gauge and i made sure it works, tested and replaced sending unit and retested, replaced thermostat with the same lower temp thermostat cause i like it to run cooler, and it does run nice and cool when its running, even when the hose blew. the shit just randomly happens. if i gotta pull this head again im setting it on fire or selling it! but i wanna give it one more go. sorry just blowin off steam. anyway if anyone knows where to get some head bolts that i don't got to spend 80 bux and an arm for let me know.

Many here, including Axel Breaker Earl and myself, have re-used the headbolts.

Sorry about your head gasket issue, but the Fel-Pro head gasket kit I got in late 2011 was fine and has held up well so far (with those re-used headbolts).

I hear its ok to reuse them a time or two but ive torqued them like 3 maybe 4 times, when I put the new gasket on last time, it said I wouldn't have to retorque, I did any way and im glad I did, two weeks later when I pulled the head again the other day, the ones closest to the fire wall were loose again. im kinda thinking this is the issue, they come loose, pressure comes in the coolant system through cylinder 3 and 4, thus causing those hoses to blow unless the gasket went first either way. maybe I should re torque them two or three times. if I cant findem cheap enough ill just use the old ones or ill use the ones from my b2000 if they are the same length and what not. they were only used once.

The head bolts are not stretch bolts so you don't have to change them at all unless it would make you feel better

I bought a new set from NAPA for $20, I had re-used mine twice already and don't know if they had been re-used by a previous owner.

I bought a $35 head gasket set off ebay. So far so good, though it's only been a few months. Still the price was right and it shipped relatively quickly.

well i took my old head bolts and screwed a few into the block and they were wiggley. they kinda had play, so i got the head bolts from my other truck, they only been used once, and i screwed them in and no play. so i think they will work fine. some disagree about wether or not they are stretch bolts, imo, even tho they arent, any bolt will stretch and wear after torqueing them so many times. especially a 20 year old bolt that has been in the motor for 300,000 miles and has needed to be retorqued more times than normal. so hopefully i wont have this problem again. after i put the head on and run through a few heat cycles and re-torque them, ill probly still check them every week for awhile.
