Truck is spewing gas with stock carb. Price to have it tuned and rebuilt is comparable to the Weber. So if I go with the Weber, (like the cleanliness that would result) could I pass emissions?

You won't pass emissions if you use the Weber. What I recommend, that you keep all the emissions parts so when it comes time to get it tested, you can bolt it all back on.

Tuna - why do you say that? I've passed AZ emission with the Weber, just had to attach vacuum hoses to the intake manifold vacuum ports that I had capped off, basically ran one port to another, dumb, to pass the visual inspection. With the Weber air cleaner, the emissions guy could now see capped-off ports, einfach verboten !!! Even though some of those had been capped off since it rolled off the assembly line (like the ports for factory cruise control and for power brakes, for the folks who don't have them).

I've also heard of folks in other states who made a "shell" from their factory air cleaner to bolt over the Weber for their emissions tests.

Heck they didn't even do a visual inspection when I took my truck lol granted I'm still stock carb and passed with flying colors (found out later that my exhaust was broken right before the muffler so he wasn't reading all the emissions.... Oops

Sounds like when my 1994 Suburban with twin exhaust vibrated one of the "Y"-pipes out that lead to the test machine. My higher math tells me that diluted the pollutants by half, and figured I didn't have the responsibility to disclose that. Guy saw it when he exited, didn't give a crap, so I passed.

Jiffy - didn't anyone open the hood to clamp on a fuel tank vent hose for the pressure test? They don't have the adapter to fit my old VW, so they screw the metal cap into their tester, and of course that seals well.

Nope, never opened the hood lol Idk guess I got a lazy guy that day... But then again I've never had someone open the hood on any of my vehicles during inspection lol they used a mirror to look underneath, did the gas cap check and emissions but that's it. Never opened the hood

Sounds like the protocol has been officially changed. Being a scientist, in my mind the entire program nationwide is full of crap, there are so few older vehicles on the roads, and all the newer ones have the check engine lights OBD2 stuff, computer-controlled, fuel injected, etc, the older vehicles contribution is insignificant. We're more strict here than Los Angeles, but we ignore most of the state.

But when's the last time ANY bureaucracy disbanded itself???

Thanks for all the input guys. I truly appreciate it, ordered the weber today and well let you everyone in on how the emissions goes.
