Im planning on make a homemade c notch with some box steel. which size do you perfer 3x3,2x3,2x4. My next question is what size c notch do i choose, im running stock rims right now and want to slam it but in the future i"ll be running 18 with 35tires but want to leave enough room to change rims an stuff, stanced 15" rims strectch! So question is how should i go about mounting the c notch to the frame, at first i was going to weld the notch on top the original frame then cut out ,weld, fill in but then i was thinking i should cut the top of the frame then slide the c notch into the frame then weld it up. IDK IM ALITTLE CONFUSED PLEASE HELP ME OUT! ANY SUGGESTION WITH BE APPRECIATED

I would probably go with 2x3, prebuild it, measure and cut the frame open enough to slide the notch inside then weld it at every seam then cut the frame section out and brace it IF I had to use this type of steel...

For the size, that one is on you... Grab a tape measure and figure out how much clearance you have now with the suspension loaded and decide how much lower you plan on to in the future and compensate for it.
You can google "Miata tire calculator" and play around with tire sizes to see how much space you will need with different sizes. This really is easier than it seems but remember that you may have to cut into the bed floor depending on the notch size.
*also, not sure if you have ever ran 35 series tires but they are TINY and a little too small for comfort, just my opinion.

I just did my c notch and have a couple pointers. Make sure you account for axle arch when placing your notch. Meaning the lower you go, the further forward your axle moves do to the drive line. I measured mine from where my ride height would be and at full compression down, the axle sat about an inch forward from original measurement. Also, in would recommend doing one piece side plates so you can weld it to the side of the frame. More strength and weldable surface area.

Do you have access to a welder and know how to use it properly? If so then deffinately do your own notch. I payed a guy 300 to weld one in about 9 years ago and it was crooked, the rear frame sagged and was tilted to the side LOL. I dont know how he messed it up so bad but this was one more reason I got my own tools so I can do this kind of stuff myself so I know its done right and now all it cost is materials and time.

Where you from? I could talk to my buddy. He has a fab shop. We can cut the notches and everything.
