Help.titan wheel bore

So i wanna bore my titan wheels . I seen videos were guys boring the wheels with a router. I think i can do this but i need some info help. Has any one done this? My questions is about the bit. All i found was i need a 1/2 inch bit. But the bit are for wood. Its thAts the one to use? I cannot find a bit for metal . If some one can help would be apriciated .

do it! that is, if you want to mess up your wheels, cause a wreck, and hit a guard rail at 70mph. The problem with youtube videos is that anybody can put a video up, no brain matter required. IF you want to bore your wheels, have a machine shop do it. They have proper tools, centering devices (the center MUST be precise) and can apply the proper pressure.

Smarter method would be to grind down the tabs on your hub, or have a machinist do such if you don't feel comfortable doing such.

Lots of people have bored their rims with a router without burning up into
a ball of flames... I plan on grinding the hubs to fit my set of Titans (which is arguably unsafe to some others, but lots have used this method without issue) but if you need to bore your set yourself with a router then you can use the 1/2" rabbiting bit but it has to be carbide tipped... they wont say used for metal on them but the carbide tips are hard enough to cut through the aluminum like butter.

Haha. This guy. I think its worse to grind the tabs . Wich mess up the balance . I know alot of ppl who have done this but they use a diferent tool. Thanks

I used to use a standard router bit on aluminum all the time when I worked as a car audio installer. I used one dedicated bit for all my aluminum work, never cut wood with that one.

Tabs don't mess up balance on lug centric wheels. I worked in a tire shop before, and I've seen the damage caused by homemade wheel boring. Insurance won't pay a dime either WHEN the wheel fails. The Mazda tabs are there to make it easier to mount the Mazda wheels.

If you bore the wheels, get it done correctly.

Agreed. The 6 lug nuts and studs hold the wheel on and keep it balanced and centered, not the tabs.

Tabs DO NOT have anything to do with safety and do not carry any weight of the vehicle.

Plenty of older cars do not have hub centric wheels from the factory - plenty of real big heavy cars.

6 lugs on these trucks are just WAY overkill, for the weight it could have 4 lugs and be fine - it weighs about the same or less than a fox mustang which has 4 lugs.

One of these days soon I'm grinding the tabs on my truck for the 18" GMC wheels I have...just need to find the time to do it.
