Hi guys, been exploring the possibilities of replacing my B22 as it is on it's way out and beyond salvaging at this point. Been thinking about the future, and my desire to acquire something like a 16 foot long boat for my camping/fishing trips, was wondering if a B2600i would be a good fit for me to haul around a boat that size, from my approximation it would be 1700 pounds to tow trailer motor gas and all? In addition there would be the weight of camping gear which would add another few hundred pounds so maybe say 2000 pounds total? Is that too much for this truck to handle and if so would it be a lot of work to beef it up to handle that kind of load?

Any input as always is greatly appreciated

It wont be fast, but the rear bumper is rated for 2000lbs max. I pulled a 2600lb boat 10KM across the city I live in during a snow storm (with an ATV in the box). I was not fast by any means with the torqueless rotary motor, involved a bunch of clutch slipping to get going, and coming to a traffic light slowly hoping it would change. The biggest problem may be highway speeds, if it is a manual, you may have to tow in 4th gear.

What befarrer says is true, it won't be fast. I towed a 91 Plymouth Acclaim 60 miles on a tow dolly with my B2200. It was a slow trip and I never saw 5th gear but I was able to do the speed limit in most areas. There are very few hills in my area so I know that made a difference. But being a 2600i has more grunt than my wore out 2.2 had back then it will be easier for you.

I tow all the time with my fresh 2.2L with a Weber 38. 1500-2000 lbs evenly distributed no problem highway and mountains. Not the fastest but able to keep up easy. A 2.6 has better grunt and better gears than my F2 does so you should be alright.

Proof: Although I didn't get above 30MPH, I out dragged a minivan from some traffic lights, lol, she got me off the line, but by the other side of the intersection, I was ahead by a car length.

It should tow it just fine. But keep it slow. If you have too much weight behind you, then the tail will wag the dog.... like this towing accident.

I watched an accident identical to this one several years ago on I-75. Light duty ford van towing a heavy duty trailer with a stock car inside. As soon has he got up to 70mph on the interstate, the oscillations started and it was too late to slow down... over in a matter of seconds.
