I live in Mississippi and look for someone to rebuild my stock Mazda B 2200 engine. NO MAJOR CHANGES. I just want it rebuilt back the way it was. And how much do you think a rebuild would cost ?

For point of reference you can get a brand new engine at a few places for about $1200-1500.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not mechanically inclined. If you of some places to get a new engine please let me know. That would be very helpful. A guy just quoted me $2100.00 to rebuild it. My pockets aren't that deep rite now due to work being slow.

Most local auto part stores sell rebuilt engines, not sure what's around you.

Taking a step back what makes you think you need a rebuild. Maybe you just need a top end job?

A mechanic told me it needed to be rebuilt or get another engine. Oil is leaking down the passenger front tire. I think he said it was thrown rod. It runs but the pressure is so low it takes a min to get up to a good speed. Not sure what to do ugh stressing me out. Do want to get ripped off in the process you know what I mean. Oh yeah it smokes really bad too .

Only thing you can do then is ask around your local area for a reliable engine builder. I gave you the prices earlier so you know about what you should spend. If you can't find a cheaper deal in town then look on-line. I doubt you'll get a NEW engine for less than $1200-1500 - especially if you threw a rod (which implies the block is broken) so you'd need a new block.

Have you considered the next step?
Upgrading to a larger engine? There are engines and transmissions that will fit with only minor changes to the truck.
Of course there is the buy, rebuild, or can I get a good used engine/transmission reasonably and install questions?
I found one I could drive and check out then they pulled it for me. I put a used (150,000 miles) not smoking 4.3 with automatic in my 90 extended cab. Practically a drop it fit, 190 horsepower, stock. Only changes to the truck were emergency brake cable routing (one or two cable position brackets) and the cross member under the engine.
Two barrel carb with an adaptor plate and HEI distributor ($75 on line, new) for an 85 4.3, no computer. Extra spice, flip the transmission over while out, put a shift kit in it, that removes the soft shift with a tire spinning shift.
The engine has to come from a pickup, van has stuff arranged for a narrower fit, high on the engine.
This will require use of a grinder, welder and good set of tools.
If yours is an automatic, the original shifter can be redesigned and used.
If you can wait for the right priced engine/trans (maybe bought separate) deal(s), this is easily in the 12-1500 dollar price range. Don't forget to add in the single or dual exhaust cost.

Just thinkin', and I live in MS.
