One of the local television stations in South Louisiana actually aired an interview with a black woman from New Orleans.

The interviewer was a woman from a Boston affiliate.

She asked the black woman how such total and complete devastation of the churches in the area had affected their lives.

Without hesitation, the woman replied; "I don't know about all those other people, but we haven't gone to Churches in years. We gits our chicken from Popeye's."

A great comment about the actual relevance of churches (and even religion) in the life of humans in the 21st century.

Thx to religion I see ongoing (3000 years and counting) strife in the Middle East, Islamic extremists planting bombs and highjacking airplanes, Shariah courts wanting to have legal rule in some communities, right-wing Catholics actively ridiculing science and evolution and Creationism rearing its ugly head in North American schools.

I don't see a single atheist, agnostic or unbeliever (whatever term you are comfortable with) blowing people up or dumbing down the level of education we are giving our children because they don't believe or worship some supernatural magical entity that lives in the sky and somehow rules over everyone and everything on Earth. Religious groups will routinely do this.

You won't see me threaten to kill a scientist because he or she invented, for example, a diabetes treatment that is better or different than the one that has been used for several years. I will simply accept it as better and move one. However, many religious groups routinely threaten to cause or do in fact cause mayhem, death and destruction if you even suggest that their customs, gods or religious laws are outdated, not relevant to modern times or not as good as some other religious groups' gods, customs or religious laws. They are unable to accept it and move because religion acts like an iron maiden on their mind. It has been warped and conditioned by religion to not accept any rational input.

Here endeth the rant.
