I would advise against shattering it. The threads will still be in the block.
Essentially, you need the new sensor in the same place. I've seen people JB Weld the sensor to the original place. I'm only suggesting this with the understanding it's a bad idea. You could even attach it horizontally next to it (not vertically) assuming there's a place for it.
The crank moving by it is the key, so since it's a V6, if there is another piston that moves in the same position as it (there should be one more on a GM V6) and there is a bolt hole at the same height from the bottom, you could possibly relocate it there. Again, terrible idea, but desperate measures, etc. etc.
