ok.. 2003 Oldsmobile Alero.. V6 believe 3400. (GM Junk) lol

Crank sensor...back of block.. broke off when changing it.. piece still in block.. how the **** do i get it out.. it'll spin freely at the bottom of the bore.. but gets stuck at top... o ring is out.. wtf is holding it... spent most of today trying to put screws into it and all.. just gets to top of hole in block and seizes.... help..

Its been a long time since I Changed one of those, isn't it just one bolt holding it in then it just pulls out? What part is broken off, the connector?

get a tap and dye kit, only thing i can think of that would help you out. it even may or may not work if you don't know what it's for, t puts a small hole in the center of a bolt ( or other item) and allows you to set a screw or anything able fit in the spot and have leverage to pull o wiggle it easier, other than idk if it would work on a crank sensor just offering advice sorry.

pull it out as far as you can, then try an put a hole through the body of it. Then find some inconspicuous bailing wire, or welding rod, or cold rolled rod or whatever you have that you can bend and push through to help grab the back and wiggle it out. Will be a major PIA but either way you need to get it out!

the crank sensor on those is a kind of like a threaded bolt. it is a magnet that senses when the crank passes by it. the bottom (the threads) simply thread into an empty hole in the block (in a certain area). the top is some cheaply press fit metal. so i can understand if the top comes off without the threads.

essentially, you'll need to drill a small hole in the center, and use an Ease-Out which is like a drill bit with reverse threads that will bore into the hole you made when you turn your ratchet as if you're loosening a bolt. It will thread itself into the bolt/threads left in the block, and hook in and start backing the threads out.

go to your nearest auto parts store, they typically have a few ease outs. if they dont have one small enough, try lowes / home depot.

the bigger question is, do you have any room to work on this? is the engine still in the car?

engine still in car.. i refuse to pull the engine for a 14 dollar sensor..

wonder if i can shatter it.... all pieces should just fall inward then so i can install new one...

I would advise against shattering it. The threads will still be in the block.

Essentially, you need the new sensor in the same place. I've seen people JB Weld the sensor to the original place. I'm only suggesting this with the understanding it's a bad idea. You could even attach it horizontally next to it (not vertically) assuming there's a place for it.

The crank moving by it is the key, so since it's a V6, if there is another piston that moves in the same position as it (there should be one more on a GM V6) and there is a bolt hole at the same height from the bottom, you could possibly relocate it there. Again, terrible idea, but desperate measures, etc. etc.
