Here are a few pics! I really got started on this project a week before April. I Wanted to get it done for Slamsession. When I started, it was a bare cab on a bare rolling frame. 8 years ago I had started this "restoration" So it went into teardown mode...and then I lost interest and funds to go further...so I stopped. Its an '87 SE5.

Yes, I DID have this thing done by Slamsession. I made it half way before the old gas tank started flaking apart inside and kept clogging my fuel filter every 5 miles...I wanted to put a new tank in before I went...but it wasn't going to be in until the following Monday..so I took a chance.

It started not long ago like this.

This is how it looked when I started on it this time for Slamsession.
Cab sorta on it now! No wires, not bolted down, no interior, no engine, no steering linkage, no panels.

Engine test run! Good to wake it up on the bottle! Just how I wake up on the weekends! B2200 engine on B2000 wiring and computer.
Good lord. I don't know about the rest of you but the pollen is INSANE! You can see it all over my truck..and that's only from the past 3 days!

Some parts I haven't even gotten to sort through yet...

A photo shoot I did once I got my trucks back home from trying to go to Slamsession.

Pics!!!

I'm in the (long, slow) process of making a video of both of my trucks set to some music.

Next steps for this truck....Bags and VR6! if not my Beloved VW VR6, some euro V8 or V6. Maybe a CLK rear subframe with a BMW M3 diff.

Since those pics..Not much has happened. I did some bodywork and cleaned up the rust, sprayed some panels black primer. The rear end has settled down a little lower now, so its more level.

Most of my work has gone into the B2200. That includes painting the metal front bumper...removed the fog lights, sprayed my upper control arm bushings with oil to stop the squeaks!

Also, next for the B2200 is adding the A/C back in since the kia swap...Cleaning up the engine install..with all of the Mazda engine accessories, brackets and coolant lines added onto the kia block, instead of the kia accessories modified to ft in Mazda. It never ends...And I only have TWO Mazda's! I'd hate to see the lives of some of you guys with 5 or so of these things! UGH!

Wow I can't wait to see you start on the VW motor swap. I loved my friends vr6 golf, it was fun car to drive.

Nice work I love seeing restorations come together, gives hope to all of us who have taken their truck apart to the frame that is can be put back together

I forgot to note that my whole goal with this truck is to have a clean looking, very well handling minitruck with some euro looks and power. So that's why I'm planning on swapping in a Merc. rear subframe and euro engine.

Another option suggested to me is swap in a whole FWD subframe into the back. That just seems like a half-assed way to do it. But it would be quick and easy.

We'll see how it goes. Stage one is complete...Which was getting the whole mess back together again. Now its time to cut it up.

I'm not sure about your budget but what about a motor from the older Porsche 944? It's a rear wheel driven car so it would be easier.

I finally got around to putting together a video of the build pics and driving video right after I got it ready to go to SlamSession '10. Sadly, I didn't make it to SlamSession due to fuel tank issues on the way, but I still built the truck from the frame up in 5 weeks in hopes to make it to the show.

There is more to come to both trucks...like paint, suspension and engine...But at least its not like it was for the past 6 years..Sitting in a million pieces in my shop and storage.

Enjoy!

Looking good man what do you have planned for paint and suspension?
SilentDawn   +1y

A metallic black gloss with the factory chrome stuff.

Suspension..I'm not sure yet. For right now I'm thinking just a simple bag setup, 4 link rear and notched.

I have another FE3 I picked up...I might drop it in just for now...

My ultimate plan is VR6 engine, Mercedes rear subframe and M3 Diff on coilovers.

for the B2200 I'm planning turbo FE3 on MS3, bags and respray. (If I keep it) I also plan on getting a 1981 VW Rabbit truck...Sooo...one of the Mazda's are likely leaving me.
