i need to replace mine .. last week when i took a phillips screw driver to one of the screws that hold it in the screw head stripped out .. any one have any tips to removing the old sending unit ? im kinda stuck now cause i can't put the bed back on the truck til we do this .lol . I ALSO would rather NOT drill the screws as the remants would go into the tank .and that wouldn't be good for the motor i would think . so any ideas would be great.

have you tried the easy out screw bits from Sears? Supposedly they take out any stripped screw.. haven't personally tried it.. but would be easier.

Yeah but these screws are pretty rusty . im wondering if they 'd be worth the try .

mike saturate the screws with " nut buster " or wd-40 and let it soak for a while then try and get them out slowly with a drill/battery powered screw drive, a hand screw driver may not give it that quick snap to release it, as far as the stripped one, try the sears bit mentioned or i have a bit calle d the gator or some dumb shit that takes anything out, if you need it i will mail it to you

let me know
good luck

i replaced my gas tank and sending unit over the winter man what a pain anyways i used one of those impact screwdrives that u hit with a hammer and it turns i am not shure of the correct turn but it worked for me and it was in really rough shape

its a pain when you have to drop the tank from below the truck . I decided to go another route as its nice out and all . I took the bed off .. plus it'll give us more room when we work on the rear brake cylcinders. i 'll put that impact screwdriver on my list . hopefully it'll do the job !! IM Just dyin to drive this thing
