Stangest thing, I've been around cars and trucks a long time now,
and I've never heard this kind of noise.

Upon starting, it sounds like marbles up at the top of the motor
I'd say in the valve train area. Give it some gas and it revs up
and goes away. At idle and slow parking lot like speed, it rattles
like marbles. Its not deep enough or engine speed chanagable
like rod knock. Engine has 142k on it fresh 10w-40 and filter.

Is it possible it needs the valves adjusted or something?

Thanks in advance!

adjust your valves that should take care of it. my integra did the same thing, its just an adjustment issue, if thats not it, it could be detonating i.e. getting to much fuel/not enough fuel. n e ways its probably just the valves though.

b2500's use hydraulic valves none ajustable. You may have a lose timing belt thay can make the valvetrain rattle. I've also seen carbon buildup on top of pistons for this get some Techron additve it will clean your pistons and the valves.

Hydraulic valves ay...

Do you recommend any perticular repair book or shop manuel?

I think I'm gunna need that for poissbly dinking with a timing belt
and what not, and it would be good to have on hand anyway.

I'll try the Techron stuff too.

Thanks for the info.

Fatory manuels are the best but I like Haynes manuels thay seem to have the best wiring diagrams and Chilton always leaves somthing out. There is a service tool for the timing belt and with out it it can be a pain. Other then that normal hand tools If your not to familiar with doing timing belts this is not a good one to learn on.
Good Luck.

Changed the timing belt and tensioner on my '90 Jetta twice now, only
lost 1 knuckle in the process.

Where can you buy the factory manuels?

You can get factory manuals on a CDROM on ebay usually.

also the noise is from lack of oil in your lifters and cam area. higher mileage motors will have this problem. get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge even if you instrument cluster already has one in it. if your motor ever does it while your motor is running shut that baby off as quick as possible and go and get an oil pump.......okay im going 2 go 2 bed
