how hard is it to rebuild a b2000 engine, and how much does it cost

Man thats a loaded question.. it really depends on how trashed the engine is.. If you have good mechanical skills and machining skills so you can save on shop labor.. a complete rebuild kit would probably cost around the $600 or so ballpark. Machine shop labor is very high priced.. so if you dont have connections.. its not even worth it.. You can buy a low mileage japanese replacement engine in the $600-$1000 range depending on where you find it and the warranty offered. You can even find these engines on e-bay and sometimes really cheap.. but those are a bit more risky. My preference is to buy engines locally so I can visually inspect them and perform various tests like compression tests and leak down tests. Oh and one thing I have learned.. DONT buy an engine from someone that speaks a different language than you do.. sounds weird I know.. but I got taken for a ride on my b2000 engine because I believed the person I was talking to understood which engine I wanted.. then they delivered a completely different engine.. still a b2000 replacement.. but not near as clean and it isnt the one I tested. Apparently their policy is to deliver which ever engine has been on their shelves the longest.. sounded like a load of BS to me.. but nothing I could really do. After testing this engine.. it was also in decent condition.. just needed a new cam. Hope this helps man.

yea if you need to have someone else do the rebulding, i'd rather just buy a jap surplus...they especially sell a lot of 2.0s, especially from 626s

thing with rebuilding the motor, it isnt just about replacing your rings, bearings etc....there are fits and tolerances that have to be specific, if those are not met, you will have problems....too tight fit and your bearings will turn, too loose and you'll have knocking out the ass...this mainly applies on the bottom end...the top end (valves and head) just have to be remachined to get the valve angles in good standing again...but you could probably replace the piston rings yourself, but then again, if your motor is in bad shape, you need to figure out fits and tolerances, cause worn cylinder walls may require a thicker ring

i just rebuilt mine not sure on the total cost cause i just got parts as i could afford them. but got all new bearings, new rings, a crankshaft(mine wasn't in very good shape), had my block checked honed and cleaned, sent my head off to to get checked and valve job along with new valve seals, plus new oil pump, and water pump, all new gaskets and seals. in all honesty i could have bought a reman engine from a parts place cheaper than rebuilding mine.
