ok, i finally got the opportunity to work on my mazda that ive had for like 4 months. it was smoking pretty darn bad so i knew that it likely needed rings or valve seals. i tore it down and put in valve seals. the old ones was in pretty bad shape so i was sure this was a large part of the problem. put it all back together and it seems to be cleared up-untill it gets hot. as soon as it gets wrmed up good it starts to smoke again. never runs bad at all just smokes a light grey/white smoke. anyone else had this and is it a common problem. are there any of the emissions systems that can be causing this? thanks for any help

Well if its happening only when fully warmed up.. and its a constant smoking.. not just puffing smoke when you shift.. then its most likely going to be your oil control rings are worn out.

White smoke is antifreeze, burning oil is has a very distinguished blue tint. Black is too much fuel.

Possibly cracked head?

My friends car did the same thing..he ended up rebuilding his entire engine b/c just about everything had gone bad...lol. Hopefully your problem isnt as severe!

what would be causeing it to smoke when you shift?

White smoke is antifreeze like AVTekk said which could mean u have a blown headgasket or cracked head very common on a Mazda! Blue smoke means ur gonna be needing ring more then likly...
