Feint ticking sound

I have a 2004 b2300 with 19k miles on it.

There's a very feint ticking sound from the engine. At first, I thought it was a rock stuck in one of my front tires. I can only hear it when I have the windows rolled down.

Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

Thanks.

it might be your valves tapping. make sure your not low on oil. it will start tapping when theirs not enough oil in the engine.

is it when your driving or when you stop? could be your exhaust cooling off.

It's happens when I'm driving and the engine is warm. The faster I go, the faster it ticks until road/wind noise overpowers the ticking noise. The ticking noise is very feint.

I'll check the oil level again. I know there are no leaks as I check the underside quite frequently.

if it makes more noise as you accelerate it sounds like you valves tapping. check that oil out, i would just add a quart or two anyways. i have to add oil to my truck all the time, it kinda sucks.

also run high grade gas and see if it continues to tick.. defenatly sounds like the valves.

Could be a couple of things.

1. Fuel injectors firing. Normal.
2. Exhaust manifold leak. Possible some studs are loose.
3. Lifters not getting filled up with oil. Doubt it coz its only got 19k miles.
4. Serpentine belt hitting something
5. Timing belt?

Best way is to open the hood and check if you can hear and see some obvious sources. If nothing obvious, don't worry about it. Just drive it.
