Hi everyone, great site. I've been having this problem with my 1990 for a while now. Whenever the truck is warm, driven for 10 or more miles, the clutch starts to slip. The engine had an oil leak so I thought the oil was getting on the clutch and flywheel. Turns out oil was not getting on either and the clutch surface looked good. Replaced the clutch assy. anyway thinking the springs were weak. Fly wheel looked Ok but did not resurface. Clutch still slips when warm. I tried the free play adjustment with no change. I ran out of ideas, anyone had a similar problem?

yea if you did not change that the pressure plate might be weak as well letting it slip it is the thing that holds pressure on the clutch and it might cuase what you saying

Thanks for the welcome. I replaced the whole clutch assembly, pressure plate and all. This is really a strange problem.

the clutch setup is alot like the breaks on a car and when you dont change the rotors when doing breaks your supposed to sand the rotor surface with some sand paper to break up the smoth surface so the new pads and set right the flywheels should have been done as well you might have "GLASSED" or thats what i call it the clutch plate and its now having trouble griping good on the flywheel which is a somewhat easy fix pull it back out and sand the disk and flywheel and PPlate done with some i think 1000 grit sand paper then put it back togather this will alow the clutch disk to set to the old flywheel i hope your getting what im saying if not i hope someone does and is better at telling yea

I understand what your telling me. It makes sense. But why does it seem to be heat related?
